BABY NURSERY & MOTHER’S ZEN LOFT – SAFARI FARMHOUSE

This pro bono Baby Nursery, Toddler Zone and Zen Loft design project is proof of successful execution and an impact of bringing happiness, inspiration and hope to a young, disadvantaged mother and her
two children that they can aspire to have a good life. Various products were donated by industry partners. Sherwin Williams sponsored all of the paint for the walls and two murals. My Wonderful Walls sponsored the beautiful wall stencils that were so critical for the design. ProSource sponsored the stacked marble stile for the Zen Loft. Home Depot sponsored the chandeliers.

Designing JOI, LLC worked with Baby’s Bounty, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides essential clothing and gear for babies born into disadvantaged families. A deserving young mother was randomly
identified as in need. The winning 21-year old mother lives with her in-laws. Her requested design was for a chic, Modern Farmhouse Design Style, incorporating elephants in a theme, with a subtle gray palette. The gray palette evokes a soothing, restful and peaceful atmosphere. The Safari Animal Mural creates a serene, yet vivid canvas of vibrant colors to stimulate learning for the toddler boy and the infant girl. The Abstract Mural in the Zen Loft features 7 Sherwin Williams paint colors. Other donated items: crib, changing station, toddler bed, clock, giraffe, animal wall templates, accessories, crib canopy, draperies, nursery chandelier, Zen Loft chandelier, etc. The children’s names are affixed to the wall in galvanized metal, which matches a large statement galvanized clock. The Zen Loft Abstract Mural complements the baby nursery. Both employ the repetitious elements of line. At the “Reveal”, the young mother, cried tears of joy. She was ecstatic two functional and beautiful spaces were designed for her.

Challenges overcame: 1) Quickly assembling a team with limited time; 2) obtaining donated items; 3) no professional painter available,
testing Designing JOI, LLC and the design associate’s painting skills. This was the first time the designer ever painted murals.
