Professional Photography by Spotlight Film Productions
For this pro bono charitable project, Designing JOI, LLC achieved a chic, sophisticated modern lobby for the Administrative Offices of The Foundation for Positively Kids, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides high-quality healthcare services for medically fragile and/or developmentally delayed children age birth to 18 years. Children and families benefit from this Modern Mid-Century Lobby, in addition to prospective clients, donors and community leaders who can enjoy a beautiful lobby while waiting to be helped by staff. This space successfully met the needs of the client by exuding professionalism, sophistication, warmth, confidence, and competence to prospective clients and donors to feel that they will receive high-quality care. Yet, this space also conveys a cozy, magical atmosphere of comfort and child-like serenity, charm and hope for children. It provides interesting visual, bold, dimensional and linear focal points as illustrated by the Mid-Century Modern Mural Wall and the Glass Mosaic Faux Fireplace. The Mural Wall is a bold focal point of 21 subtle hues of soothing gray and purple, complementing the commercial property’s decor of gray stripped carpet and gray paint, all chosen meticulously to enhance color palette and accent colors (purple, plum and blue). The faux fireplace is a metaphor for a magical castle evoking feelings of whimsy, fantasy and child tales. The whimsical wall art celebrates fun silhouettes of a boy and girl. Challenges overcame: (1) Removing older paint causing mural to not adhere, (2) fixed optical illusions with slanted mural wall, (3) maximized small budget with the following: Designing JOI, LLC (created and donated the design concept, design services and obtained sponsors), Sherwin Williams (donated all paint), ProSource(donated all glass mosaic wall tiles), Cortes Flooring Inc. (donated labor costs for extensive mosaic glass wall tile installation and materials), and Spotlight Film Productions (donated professional photography services). This charity project was a labor of love.
